Description
RP 90 2022-2030
The 2020 Esculpido Avesso Vinhas Velhas Quinta de Santa Teresa was aged for six months in 20% new French oak and comes in at 13.8% alcohol. Not surprisingly, given that this is the youngest of the three Esculpido Avessos in this report, the oak is most prominent here. It is barely a factor in the 2018 and 2019. Frankly, the oak is not overly powerful as a nuance here either; it’s just more obvious because it gives this a slight sweet edge from the new wood. That will improve with time. The rest here is very good in terms of structure and depth. If there’s a quibble, this simply lacks the fine expression of fruit that its older siblings show in this report. It is not as developed as the 2018 nor as focused as the 2019. That may be, to some extent, just due to the relative youth here. This certainly has fine potential. Let’s lean up a bit on this, but put it away for at least a year. There were approximately 3,000 bottles produced from 80-year-old vines.
